Putting the oooo in the Super Bowl this weekend 

Super Bowl: some people love it, some people only care about the half time show and some barely know what it is but are just here for the vibes. Whether you’re invested or not, sport-watching vibes are not complete without delicious snacks, especially if you’re the lucky one nominated to host this weekend…

Cooking up a few sharing bowls doesn’t need to be complicated though - grab your trusty air fryer for some simple recipe hacks that are worth shouting about. We’ve got something for the carnivores and veggies - and for those who have a serious sweet tooth…

Sticky chicken wings

What you’ll need:

  • 450-500g chicken wings
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 tbsp cornflour
  • 1 tbsp runny honey
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tsp toasted sesame oil
  • 2 tsp sesame seeds, toasted
  • 1 large spring onion, thinly sliced
  • Salt & black pepper

How to create this soooper snack:

  1. Toss the chicken wings in olive oil, salt and pepper and coat in cornflour.
  1. Air-fry the wings in a single layer for 25 minutes at 180°C, turning halfway.
  1. Whisk together the honey, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar and toasted sesame seed oil in a large bowl.
  1. Tip the cooked wings into the glaze, tossing until coated and return to the air fryer for 5 more minutes.
  1. Toss the wings in any remaining glaze and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and spring onions to serve.

Mozzarella dippers

What you’ll need:

  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 tsp of Italian seasoning
  • ½ tsp of salt
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 8 whole milk (or low-fat) mozzarella sticks

How to whip this up:

  1. Combine the Italian seasoning, salt and breadcrumbs in a shallow bowl.
  1. Dip the mozzarella sticks into the beaten egg and breadcrumbs and coat completely.
  1. Freeze them for 30-60 minutes.
  1. Coat the sticks again, following the same method.
  1. Freeze again for 30-60 minutes.
  1. Set your air fryer to 200°C and cook in batches for 6-8 minutes.

Buffalo bites

What you’ll need:

  • 1 large cauliflower
  • 120g flour
  • 250ml milk
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • 250ml hot sauce
  • 63g melted butter

Your method:

  1. Whisk your flour, milk and seasoning into a smooth batter.
  1. Dip bits of cauliflower into the batter until completely covered.
  1. Lay the cauliflower in a single layer and cook for 13-15 minutes at 200°C until crispy.
  1. Whisk the butter and hot sauce together.
  1. Take your crispy cauliflower out of the air fryer and drench in the hot, buttery sauce!

Double choc brownies (yes, in the air fryer!)

What you’ll need:

  • 125g dark chocolate
  • 2 eggs
  • 125g butter
  • 175g caster sugar
  • 80g plain flour
  • 20g cocoa powder
  • 40g white chocolate chips

How to nail these:

  1. Melt the dark chocolate and butter together and a small pan over a low heat. Leave to cool for a few minutes – whilst you wait, line a tin with greaseproof paper.
  1. Whisk the eggs, sugar and a pinch of salt until thick and creamy.
  1. Sift in the flour and cocoa powder, then pour in the melted chocolate and butter mix.
  1. Fold together until combined, then add the chocolate chips.
  1. Pour into the tin and air fry for 25-35 minutes at 160°C until just set with a squishy middle.

There you have it – four easy-peasy super snack bowls for a Super Bowl to remember.
