3 Frightfully Good Halloween Recipes (Without the Kitchen Nightmares)

Three spooky Halloween recipes from Daewoo
HALLOWEEN IN THE KITCHEN

Three Spooky Recipes. Zero Kitchen Nightmares.

Halloween's here. The costumes are questionable, someone's eaten half the trick-or-treat sweets already, and you've somehow volunteered to make the food.

Brilliant.

Luckily, we've got three spooky recipes that look like you've made a proper effort. Whether you're feeding little monsters or hosting a Halloween get-together, Daewoo's got the tricks. You bring the treats.

RECIPE 1

Honeycomb Graveyard Crunch

Crunchy, golden honeycomb that looks like something dug up from a haunted graveyard. In a good way.

What You'll Need

  • 200g caster sugar
  • 5 tbsp golden syrup
  • 2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 100g dark chocolate
  • Crushed chocolate biscuits and edible eyes to decorate (optional)

Let's Get Cooking

  1. Line a deep baking tin with baking parchment.
  2. Add the sugar and golden syrup to a large, heavy-bottomed saucepan. Heat gently on the Daewoo Hot Plate, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Stop stirring and let the mixture bubble until it turns a deep golden amber (around 150°C on a sugar thermometer).
  4. Remove from the heat, quickly whisk in the bicarbonate of soda and watch it foam up.
  5. Immediately pour into the prepared tin. Leave to cool completely, then break into chunks.
  6. Drizzle with melted chocolate and sprinkle over crushed biscuits for that freshly-dug-up look.

The best bit? Watching the mixture bubble up like a science experiment gone wrong.

Safety first: Molten sugar can cause severe burns. This one's strictly for grown-ups, and the mixture should never be touched or tasted until completely cool.

RECIPE 2

Pumpkin Hand Pies

Like pumpkin pie, but handheld. Because nobody wants to be washing up plates at a Halloween party.

Homemade Halloween pumpkin hand pies

What You'll Need

  • 1 sheet ready-rolled shortcrust pastry
  • 150g pumpkin purée
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground ginger
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Icing sugar and water to decorate (optional)

Let's Get Cooking

  1. Mix the pumpkin purée, brown sugar and spices.
  2. Cut the pastry into 8-10 circles or pumpkin shapes, making sure you have matching pairs.
  3. Spoon a little filling into the centre of half the shapes, leaving a border.
  4. Brush the edges with egg, top with the remaining pastry and seal with a fork. Cut a small steam vent in each.
  5. Brush with egg and air fry at 170°C for approximately 12-15 minutes, in batches, until golden and cooked through. Check early, as air fryers vary.
  6. Leave to cool slightly, then add little icing faces if you're feeling artistic.

The verdict? They look adorable. They'll disappear in minutes. And someone will still ask if you've got any normal biscuits.

RECIPE 3

Bloody Good Tomato Soup

A bowl of something warm and red to balance out the approximately 400 sweets everyone has eaten.

Halloween tomato soup served as a spooky warming meal

What You'll Need

  • 1 tin chopped tomatoes (400g)
  • 300g passata
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, crushed
  • 1 tbsp tomato purée
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Vegetable stock, as needed within the soup maker's fill limits
  • 2 tbsp cream, to finish
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Let's Get Cooking

  1. Add the tomatoes, passata, onion, garlic, tomato purée, paprika and basil to the Daewoo Soup Maker.
  2. Add enough vegetable stock to reach the minimum fill level, without exceeding the maximum.
  3. Select the smooth soup programme and let it cook.
  4. Once finished, stir in the cream and season to taste.
  5. Serve with toast cut into little ghost shapes. Because apparently regular toast isn't spooky enough.

Serving suggestion: Rich, warming and just a little bit dramatic. Exactly what Halloween dinner should be.
