Many of us love nothing more than spending our hard-earned cash on iced coffee and the more ridiculous the better. Venti iced matcha oat latte anyone? Ditch the boujee barista-style coffees and make them at home instead!
Here are five quick, easy and delicious iced coffee recipes – from the classic americano to international favourites.
Looking for a specific recipe? Just click below to jump straight there:
1. Classic iced coffee
Let’s start with a simple americano (black) iced coffee. All you need to do is prepare two shots of espresso, or a small cup of instant coffee, and add it to a tall glass. Top it up with cold water and add ice cubes. And that’s all there is to it!
From here you can experiment with adding dairy or plant milk for an iced latte, or treat yourself by adding flavoured syrups like vanilla or hazelnut.

2. Vietnamese iced coffee
Unlike in Europe and the USA where people usually add semi-skimmed milk to their coffee, Vietnam goes for sweetened condensed milk instead. This one is a little indulgent but once you make it once you’ll be hooked. But you don’t have to go all the way to Saigon to try this summery drink, just follow these steps:

Make a shot of coffee using ground coffee beans or your espresso machine. Dark roast is best for this one! Add two tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk to a glass then pour in the espresso, stir it together, and serve with ice.
You can also add a splash of coconut milk to make a variation called cà phê dừa, which is even better on hot, humid days.
3. Affogato
You might not be sitting in a chic Italian piazza, but this two-ingredient classic will transport you to an authentic Italian cafe. An affogato, from the Italian word for ‘drowned’, is a delicious treat combining espresso and a scoop of ice cream.
Simply scoop the ice cream into a glass or small bowl and pour over a fresh shot of espresso (or two). Then serve with your favourite biscotti!
Plain or vanilla ice cream is the traditional choice of flavour in Italy, but you can also try it with chocolate for a mocha twist. Or why not add a cheeky shot of Frangelico or amaretto for a Friday night treat?

4. High protein coffee frappe
Get a caffeine boost and hit your nutrition goals at the same time with a high-protein coffee frappe.

To make this pre-workout shake, you’ll need a blender, your favourite protein powder, skimmed milk and, of course, two shots of espresso. Scoop a serving of the protein powder into a blender, then add the milk – start with 300ml and add more if needed. Blend until smooth, pour in the espresso, then blend some more!
5. Frothy iced coffee
Hot frothy coffees like lattes and cappuccinos are made by steaming milk to a high temperature. But did you know you can get that same velvety smooth texture in an iced drink?
The key is getting a milk frother that also has a cold setting – like this one. Pull your espresso shot like usual, add ice cubes, then pour over the cold froth and stir gently to combine.
Make sure to use whole milk or a barista-style plant milk for the best results!

Now you can make perfect iced coffee drinks all summer long! And it’s about time you dumped the instant coffee in favour of fresh espresso (you know you deserve it).
